I try to hold on... to where I am and what I am
but things dissolve
nothing seems important anymore
yet everything does
so many possibilities and chances
people not aware of each other... how could we,
cuz our little heres and nows seem so puny compared to the universe
yet there's enough in them to fill another universe
reality and scale dissolve... but you're staying
you're always there
and it's hard to tell if you're here
or here is you.

The Big Picture
My friend Christina was right. You have to watch this!
Just as miserable and angry as I felt 4 years ago, just as inspired and hopeful this new president has made me. For it is the big picture that counts: What has been achieved in the last >200 years of American history... and what do we hope for America and the world to become in the next 100 years, beyond our lifetimes.
Maybe idealism is the most important thing we humans have... and I felt mine gain new strength after this speech.

Australian Modesty
Das hier war in meiner Cornflakesschachtel:

Auf der Rückseite steht:
GAME: Australia v Italy, 26 June 2006
MEMORABLE MOMENT:
After a heroic World Cup campaign, 7 million Australian viewers cheered the Qantas Socceroos on during their last minute 1-0 loss to Italy, the eventual world champions. This game changed football in Australia forever.
Weiter so, Australien... vielleicht verliert man bei der nächsten WM ja sogar in der Verlängerung!

Come get it... the only place in the world is Coogee!
I, Peter, hereby claim that I have been the first person in the world ever to eat the
Ovomaltine Crumpet.
Here it is..... TADAAAA!
(Wall-E also says "Tadaaa!" once..... )

The ingredients are:
1 Crumpet
1 tsp of Ovomaltine crunchy breadspread.
Zubereitung:
Toast the Crumpet. Spread the Ovomaltine crunchy breadspread. Eat it before it gets cold!
The hot crumpet melts the Ovomaltine breadspread, so that it runs into the vertical holes of the crumpet and soaks it like a sponge. But the crunchy caramel peaces remain on top... mmmhhh. Crunchy on the top, soft and warm on the bottom.
Now, the special thing actually is that crumpets can only be bought in English speaking countries, (AFAIK, please correct me if I am wrong here...) and Ovomaltine breadspread can only be bought in Switzerland.
Just imagine... other people have to eat Nutella Crumpets...
can't compare this sh** can you.

A Pontoon (club) conversation
She: Why did you guys walk in the other direction after I told you how to get to Pontoon?
I explained why.
She: What Nash are you?
I: German.
She: How old are you?
I: 27. And you?
She: 20. (Turns around and leaves.)

German is such a beautiful language...
... and this is my favourite word:
Weihnachtsbaumschuckausstattungsfachgeschäft
an abbreviated version of this word can be found in Basel at this store:
(I suppose we can't hope for the existence of an isomorphism between all ideas and all words.)
In Basel, by the way, you can buy many more useful things, like e.g. this device that is moving your watches (Uhrenbeweger; 590CHF is about 590A$). It is keeping your automatic watch from discharging itself, and also, if installed in your walk-in wardrobe under proper lighting, it helps you decide which of your Rolex watches would go best with the cocktail dress you are currently wearing.

it prolly does come around eventually

Waiting for the bus, I sat next to this nice elderly lady who gave me a smile. I smiled back, opened my book, and then had this coughing fit. She said "take one of these!" and gave me a Strepsils Hustenbonbon. They really helped! She gave me another one for the way.
Then at the wharf I had time to buy my own Hustenbonbons, some of which I gave to my friend P... but in fact, if you think about it, it wasn't me giving them to her, but this nice grandma.
We never pass anybody without leaving a trace.
(thanks vale ;-) )
